Marsh

A coastal fisherman’s cottage that survived the great North Sea Flood of 1953.  At that time, on the harbour road, it had the beach to the east and marsh to the west. Today a sandbank offers protection from the sea, however its relationship with the marsh required careful consideration.

Clients, Architect and Timothy discuss extending the house with a living room / kitchen to the west, raised above the low-lying floodplain, accommodating a similar approach with floating decks resting on the landscape. A simple palette of timber, local pebble sandstone and plants provide a tranquil setting to appreciate the full landscape scene.
